Engine overhaul - experience with inexpensive shops
Engine overhaul - experience with inexpensive shops
Hi! I own a '73 Cessna 340 and I am looking at overhauling my two Continental TSIO 520 (turbo) engines.
First, I wanted to see if anyone has had experience with Devine Air in Devine, Texas. My engines have been overhauled there 15 years ago (and 1,400 hrs, TBO in my case) and the engines have been running very well with no major problems over all this time.
An overhaul by Devine Air is $17,500 per engine, less than one half of what brand-name shops (Western Skyways, Manituck, etc.) charge, which is in the $35-45k range.
Given my excellent experience with this inexpensive overhaul, particularly on engines that often to not make TBO, I think I will go back to Devine this time around, as $40k for two engines (including some extras) is would save me $30-50k vs the more expensive alternatives.
But I would like what others' experiences have been. I heard Devine doesn't have a good reputation, that they cut corners, but this come either from their much more expensive competitors or is just hearsay ... I haven't been able to find a first hand negative experience.
Any other thoughts on this are welcome.
Thanks,
Andrei
