Ageing Cessna High Wing Singles
I am hearing rumours in Australia of soon to be released or enforced Cessna SID's that will render C152's and other ageing Cessna high wing singles non airworthy if they don't undergo expensive airframe inspections based simply on their age. Expensive in the regions of $60K to $80K. The rumour goes that it is already set to happen in the US and that Australia's CASA will be following suite in the next year. I have not found any evidence for this claim on either the FAA or CASA websites but I am still intrigued enough to try to find out why the rumours persist. Those propounding the rumour insist they have it on good authority, however they cannot identify said authority. I am not a Cessna owner yet, but over the past few years I have been working towards being able to purchase an older C152 ( in Australia around $40K for an average one with reasonable hours ) but if this rumour is true then such a purchase would not be a viable or sensible proposition. Can anyone shed light on what has lead to this rumour and if there is any truth behind it?
Re: Ageing Cessna High Wing Singles
The FAA web site has a lot of publications available regarding aging aircraft, but I don't see anything that would be regulatory in nature regarding general aviation aircraft. I would think that any hint of that kind of burden being placed on aircraft owners would get an immediate and very loud response from thousands of AOPA members.
