In January 2012, SPI confirmed with the doctor/pilot that he and his daughter were flying their single engine Currus SR 22 from Miami to Haiti when they were forced to make an emergency landing in the Bahamas. From the wing of their plane they deployed the SPI raft (inflates in 10 seconds). They were thankful to be safe after being picked up by USCG rescue helicopter.
