<HTML>Although a sister engine to the O-300 had an oil cooler (the C-125 engine), O-300's normally do not. To adapt the Continental oil cooler to your O-300 would require an accessory-case change also. (and either a field approval or STC).
The most likely cause of excessive oil temps are: Engine cooling baffles in poor condition, excessive blow-by from worn piston-rings, blocked air-flows (such as birdnests/waspnests), high angle-of-attack in prolonged climbs (increase your forward speed).
The O-300 engine originally had an oil temp limit of 225 degrees F., but the Type certificate later was changed to allow the use of SAE 50 wt oil (100W) which raised the allowable temp to 240 F. in ambient temps above 40 F. (or use SAE 30 or 10W30 in ambient temps below 40 F.) NOTICE that muligrade 50 wt oils are NOT allowed to increase the oil temps. I.E., 15W50, etc is not permissible except to limit oil temps to 225 F. If you want to raise the oil temp limit, you must use a single-grade 50 wt oil.</HTML>

<HTML>Plus incorrect timing and a few other things. Go for the less expensive items first, starting with having no gaps whatsoever in the baffling. There often are huge holes or even pieces (including metal plates) missing. And if you have a CHT gauge, it may or may not read high, helping diagnose the problem.</HTML>
