Cessna Head Rests

<HTML>What happened to all the Cessna headrests that came out in the 172's ? I have a L model (1972) and have been looking for the original head rest can't seem to find them anywhere ! Why did people remove them ? does anyone know ?</HTML>

<HTML>I recently had the same question. When I checked the original equipment list for my airplane as delivered from Cessna, the headrests were listed as optional, and in my case, were not delivered with the airplane (there was a big fat "zero" instead of an "X" under the equipped column on the "Headrest" row). So... nobody removed them, they were never delivered! I guess the original owner was a cheapskate. My suggestion would be to check with some of the bigger salvage yards/dismantlers like Dodson or Wentworth and see if they have any that are reasonably priced. You'll probably have to recover them with material to match your interior. I also seem to recall reading a recent article about Cessna headrests being very similar to the headrests delivered with some brands of Japanese cars, but I don't know how legal it would be to use them.</HTML>
