life of sprk plugs
<HTML>To George H or anyone, what should be expected life of spark plugs in a C182RG, the engine is Lycoming 054, the engine has about 330 hrs since OH. I'm begining to notice a slight engine roughness at 8 to 9,000 ft when I lean. Using EGT and Shadin fuel flowas a guide to set fuel flow, to achieve smooth engine performance it seems that furl flow is higher than it should be.
If I need new plugs, I recall reading somewhere about fine wire plugs....maybe Iridium and they give better life and less fouling .</HTML>
Re: life of sprk plugs
<HTML>Traditionally it has been expected that massive electrode plugs, if properly maintained, will last about 500 hours. If they are aggressively cleaned using blasting media each 100 hours, however, that may not be possible to get that much life out of them.
Fine wire plugs are usually best if used in an engine that either suffers from oil fouling or has high time and is an "oil-burner". Some users prefer them especially on lower plugs because they do clean up better in normal engine combustion.
Personally, unless you have problems with oil fouling, I'd recommend you stay with massive electrode plugs.</HTML>
