oil cooler leak

<HTML>I have a 172XP with the IO360KB engine that has about 100 hrs since factory reman. The oil cooler is leaking around the base between the cooler and adapter, not bad but enough to mess things up. Continental has been notified and I am waiting to here back to see what they want me to do. Has anyone else had this problem with a almost new motor?</HTML>

<HTML>I have had two oil cooler leaks on a new reman. The first was between the adapter plate and the case. TCM tore the gasket during assembly ( re-assembly after replacing the crank). Took about 200 hours before the leak started but it was a big one at about 1 qt./hour.

When replacing everything I wanted to use a new gasket between the cooler and the adaptor plate. TCM gave me the number and said get it from Aviall. I did and after about 30 hours this new gasket failed. This may be your problem. TCM is using a much thinner gasket with some RTV looking stuff on it. IT IS NO GOOD. I went back with the older and much thicker gasket that everyone has been using for years. Am in the process of sending TCM the documentation on the gasket failure.

A new engine should have no oil leaks and I would fix your leaking cooler now. It may get much worse if it was a factory screwup. TCM did a very poor job of quality control during the crankshaft replacement fiasco.
