Re: ??bad DG
<HTML>Directional Gyros are sensitive to vacuum sources. They require 3.5 to 5 inches Mercury. Any more, or any less will cause excessive precessing. Check your vacuum, and regulator and hoses. The regulator filter screen may also need cleaning. If the vacuum is good, and if it's been awhile since it's been overhauled, you might need to have it overhauled/exchanged due to bearing wear.</HTML>
Re: ??bad DG
<HTML>Thank you George, Vacum runs about 5 1/2 but how accurate is the gauge ?? As far as age I've owned the A/C a 182 RG for for little more than 2 years and 330 hrs, I guess it's time to look thru logs to see when / if DG was rebuilt or swapped .
If it has too much vacum how or can it be reduced to 5, at the annual done April 2000 I had to have valve or connections on the precise flight stand by vacum updated to the "newer " because of an AD...... the vacum at that time became higher and now the DG precesses at a seemingly rapid rate.</HTML>
Re: ??bad DG
<HTML>You may just have found your problem. The vacuum is adjustable at the vacuum regulator. Look at your C182RG illustrated parts manual for it's location, or ask your mechanic to show you. Usually all that is necessary is to snip the safety wire, release the locknut, rotate the knob a half turn at a time, re-tighten the locknut, and run the engine up to cruise to test the new vacuum level. To decrease vacuum, turn the knob counter-clockwise (on most units). Be sure to re-safety the locknut when you finish. Good luck.</HTML>
