Another difference is the 196 has a marine and land mode. I've used the land mode when traveling to another state. Works great to answer the "are we there yet?" question. If you have not used a 196 and seen the much improved video then you are missing out on something smile

George---where did you see that $889 price for the 196??? PLs. advise--lowest I've seen is $959. Maybe the "threat" of the new Lowrance model is already starting to move things around.

The $889 price was quoted over the phone. (Retailers are prohibited from advertising in print anything less than Mfr's Suggested Retail, ...or they risk losing their dealerships. Call a retailer for a direct quote.)
